Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

ANGIHCC (A New Generation Initiative for Health and Community Care) is a professional counselling and psychosocial support organization based in Bafoussam, in the West Region of Cameroon. We provide compassionate, confidential, and professional mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and groups.

Our mission is to foster personal growth and community wellbeing through a holistic approach that integrates psychological expertise with psychosocial and spiritual support. We believe that mental health is essential to overall health, and that everyone deserves access to quality support regardless of their background or circumstances.

Our services include individual counseling, marriage and family counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention, workshops and seminars, collaboration/mentorship, and research/consultancy. We are guided by our core values of empathy, integrity, empowerment, diversity/inclusivity, and collaboration.

Anyone can benefit from counselling and psychosocial support. Life presents challenges to all of us at various times, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Our services are for:

  • Individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief, or life transitions
  • Couples navigating relationship difficulties, communication problems, or considering marriage
  • Families dealing with conflict, parenting challenges, or intergenerational issues
  • Groups seeking shared support for common challenges like grief, addiction, or chronic illness
  • Anyone in acute crisis following trauma, loss, or overwhelming events
  • Community organizations, schools, and businesses seeking workshops, training, or consultation
  • Students and professionals in the mental health field seeking mentorship or collaboration

We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and walks of life. Our doors are open to everyone.

Not at all. While we do support people with diagnosed mental health conditions, many of our clients seek counselling for everyday challenges. People come to us for many reasons:

  • To navigate major life transitions like marriage, parenthood, career changes, or retirement
  • To improve communication and relationships
  • To process grief and loss
  • To manage stress from work, family, or financial pressures
  • To increase self-awareness and personal growth
  • To build coping skills for life's challenges
  • To have a confidential space to talk through difficult decisions

Think of counselling as investing in your mental and emotional wellbeing, just as you might exercise to invest in your physical health. You don't need to wait for a crisis to seek support.

Yes, confidentiality is fundamental to our work and one of our core values. Everything you share with your counsellor is kept confidential within the limits of the law and professional ethics. This means we do not disclose your information to anyone without your written consent.

However, there are rare exceptions where confidentiality may be broken, and we are transparent about these from the beginning:

  • If there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others
  • If we suspect abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult
  • If a court orders disclosure of information
  • If we require supervision or consultation (in these cases, we discuss cases without revealing identifying information)

Before your first session, your counsellor will explain confidentiality in detail and answer any questions you have. We want you to feel safe and secure in sharing openly.

A standard individual counselling session lasts approximately 50-60 minutes. Marriage and family counselling sessions may be slightly longer, typically 60-90 minutes, to allow adequate time for all family members to be heard.

The first session, often called an intake or assessment session, may take a little longer as we gather background information and discuss your goals for counselling.

Group therapy sessions typically run 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the group size and format.

Yes, we provide services in both English and French, reflecting the bilingual nature of Cameroon. Our counsellors are proficient in both languages and can conduct sessions in the language you are most comfortable with. Please indicate your language preference when booking your appointment.
